Step into autumn with this Fall word search printable: turning leaves, harvest time, woodland mushrooms and warming treats all appear in the grid. The words come from the season itself — orchards, pumpkin patches, farm work and the colours of fall.
This word search contains the following words:
- NOVEMBER — A general calendar word: the eleventh month, the last full month of autumn in the northern hemisphere.
- REAPING — Farm work word: cutting and gathering a ripe crop such as wheat or barley at harvest time.
- THRESHING — Another harvest job: beating or rubbing grain to separate the seeds from the stalks and husks.
- SQUASH — A general garden word: the family of autumn vegetables that includes pumpkins, butternut and acorn squash.
- PARSNIP — A root vegetable dug up in late autumn and winter, and a traditional part of the harvest meal.
- NUTMEG — A warm spice grated into autumn and winter baking, often paired with pumpkin and apple pies.
- MAPLE — The tree whose leaves turn red and orange in fall, and whose sap becomes syrup.
- SYRUP — What boiled maple sap becomes; poured over pancakes and used in autumn baking.
- CHLOROPHYLL — The green pigment in leaves; as days shorten in fall it breaks down and other colours show.
- ANTHOCYANIN — The pigment that gives autumn leaves their reds and purples, and colours berries and apples.
- MUSHROOM — A general woodland word: the fungi that appear on forest floors when autumn rains arrive.
- CHANTERELLE — A golden wild mushroom of the forest, gathered in autumn and prized in the kitchen.
- HOTCHOCOLATE — A warming drink for cold fall evenings, often topped with marshmallows or whipped cream.
- GINGERBREAD — A spiced baked treat of the colder season, flavoured with ginger, cinnamon and molasses.
- CANOPY — The layer of branches and leaves at the top of a tree or forest.
