Winter word search: a printable that gathers snow, ice, cold-weather clothing, forest and polar animals, winter sports, warm drinks and holiday words. The theme comes from the season itself — everyday winter life, from snowstorms and sledding to hot chocolate and the cozy indoors.
This word search contains the following words:
- WINDCHILL — A cold-weather measurement term used by forecasters, describing how much colder the moving air feels on exposed skin.
- ICESTORM — A winter weather event in which freezing rain coats roads, trees and wires in a layer of ice.
- TURTLENECK — A close-fitting knit collar that folds over at the neck, worn as part of winter clothing on the body.
- PULLOVER — A sweater without buttons or a front opening that is pulled on over the head, a common winter garment.
- PTARMIGAN — A grouse of arctic and alpine tundra whose plumage turns white in winter for camouflage.
- LEMMING — A small rodent of the arctic tundra, known for the population cycles that gave rise to migration myths.
- SKIING — A winter sport in which a person travels over snow on a pair of long runners attached to the feet.
- SNOWBOARDING — A winter sport ridden on a single wide board strapped to both feet, sliding sideways down snowy slopes.
- HOTCHOCOLATE — A warm drink of melted chocolate or cocoa powder mixed with milk or water, a classic cold-day treat.
- MOCHA — A coffee drink that mixes espresso with chocolate and steamed milk, a warmer choice on a winter menu.
- YULETIDE — An old name for the Christmas season, the winter holiday period built around the Yule festival.
- NEWYEAR — The holiday that begins on 1 January and closes the winter season with countdowns and fireworks.
- CHALET — A wooden house with a sloping roof, traditionally a herder's hut in the Alps and now a ski resort lodging.
- TUNDRA — A treeless biome of the far north where the ground stays frozen most of the year and only low plants grow.
- SNOWPLOW — A truck fitted with a wide blade that pushes snow off roads after a winter storm.
